A Pastor Who Walks With People

Brandy does not approach ministry from a distance. She prays with people, listens deeply, teaches faithfully, and remains present through difficult seasons.

Her leadership is grounded in the belief that transformation happens through truth, relationship, prayer, and continued surrender to God. Whether she is walking alongside an individual or family, teaching Scripture, leading prayer, offering pastoral care, or guiding others through freedom and spiritual formation, her desire is the same:

That every person would come to know God more deeply, encounter the truth of His Word, and learn to walk with Him in freedom, faithfulness, and love.

Pastor, Teacher of Scripture & Founder of The Way of Light

I’m Brandy Mussman—a teacher of Scripture, pastor, pastoral counselor, author, wife, and mother. My faith is rooted in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the Scriptures of Israel and the New Testament, and in Yeshua—Jesus—the Messiah.

For nineteen years, my husband, Ian, and I have had the privilege of walking closely with people through some of the most important and difficult seasons of their lives. Again and again, I have seen that beneath the circumstances that bring us to God—fear, grief, illness, broken relationships, spiritual confusion, or simply the longing for something more—there is a deeper invitation: to know Him.

That has become the heart of my life and ministry.

My Journey

My path to ministry was not a conventional one.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Organizational Psychology and spent much of my earlier career in business, organizational development, natural health, mentorship, and coaching. I had the privilege of working with Dr. Ichak Adizes, one of the pioneers of organizational psychology, as his Marketing Director, and later served as Chief Operating Officer for Miranda Kerr’s KORA Organics, helping introduce the Australian organic skincare company to the United States.

But alongside that professional life, Ian and I spent years working personally with people—listening to their stories, helping them recognize patterns in their lives, walking with them through suffering and change, and seeking to understand what brings genuine and lasting transformation.

Over time, my work became increasingly centered on Scripture.

The more deeply I studied the Bible, the more I became convinced that Scripture is not a collection of disconnected religious teachings. It tells one extraordinary, continuous story: God creating a people for Himself, entering into covenant with them, redeeming them, forming them, dwelling among them, and sending them into the world to bear His light.

And I began to recognize that same pattern in the lives of the people we served.

What began as helping people find healing gradually became something much larger: helping people understand who God is, who they are in relationship with Him, and how we actually learn to walk with Him.

That journey eventually became The Way of Light.

Why The Way of Light

The Way of Light exists to walk alongside people seeking truth, healing, freedom, and a deeper relationship with God, and to provide a pathway of biblical formation for those who desire to grow into mature covenant life in Messiah.

At the heart of our teaching is a pattern we see repeated throughout Scripture:

Covenant → Identity → Freedom ↔ Formation → Commission

God calls us into relationship with Himself.
He gives us an identity as His people.
He brings freedom from what keeps us bound.
He forms our character so that our lives increasingly reflect Him.
And He sends us into the world to represent Him.

This is why I don’t believe spiritual formation is primarily about accumulating biblical information. We are meant to know God, walk with Him, be changed by Him, and learn to live faithfully in His presence.

Scripture is therefore central to everything I teach. I love helping people see its great patterns—from Creation and Abraham, through Israel and the prophets, into the life and teachings of Jesus and the writings of the apostles—and understand how those patterns illuminate our own lives with God.

The Hebrew Scriptures and Messiah

My understanding of Scripture is deeply rooted in the Hebrew Bible and in the covenant story of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

I believe that Jesus—Yeshua—is the Messiah, and that understanding Him within the story of Israel brings tremendous depth and clarity to the New Testament. Jesus did not appear in a vacuum. His life, teachings, death, and resurrection belong within the great biblical story that begins with Creation and unfolds through Abraham, Israel, the covenants, the Torah, the prophets, and the promises of God.

For that reason, I love helping people encounter the Bible as one continuous story rather than as two disconnected testaments. I am particularly passionate about helping people understand the Hebrew Scriptures on their own terms and seeing the world, language, covenants, and expectations out of which the New Testament emerges.

The Way of Light is not affiliated with a particular denomination or religious movement, and the people who come to us represent a wide variety of backgrounds. We work with Christians, Jews, people from other faith traditions, and people who are unsure what they believe at all.

We meet people where they are.

Some come wanting to deepen a faith they already possess. Some are wrestling with God. Some have been wounded by religion. Some are simply searching. Among the Jewish people we have walked with, some have come to recognize Jesus as Messiah through that journey, while others have not. We do not require people to arrive with our beliefs in order to walk alongside them.

What we offer is a place to seek God sincerely, to ask difficult questions, to engage deeply with Scripture, and to pursue truth without pretending that the journey looks the same for everyone.

Walking With People

Teaching is only one part of my ministry.

For nineteen years, Ian and I have walked personally with people from remarkably different backgrounds and circumstances. They have come to us carrying grief, fear, illness, broken relationships, spiritual questions, family struggles, trauma, loss of direction, and sometimes simply a deep sense that there must be more to life than what they are experiencing.

Our role is not to force everyone through the same spiritual doorway. It is to meet the person in front of us, listen carefully, love them well, and help them seek truth, healing, freedom, and a deeper relationship with God.

Today we do this through pastoral counseling, prayer, spiritual guidance, teaching, and what we call Freedom Encounter—helping people bring areas of fear, wounding, bondage, confusion, unforgiveness, and brokenness honestly before God.

But freedom is not the end of the journey.

One of the convictions that gave birth to The Way of Light is that freedom must be followed by formation. It is not enough to be freed from something. We must discover what we have been freed for.

For those who desire to continue into deeper biblical formation, The Way of Light provides a pathway of Scripture, discipleship, prayer, community, and spiritual formation intended to help people mature in their relationship with God and increasingly reflect His character in the way they live and love.

Prayer

Prayer is woven through all of this.

I don’t think of prayer simply as something we are supposed to do. Prayer is relationship. It is conversation, surrender, listening, intercession, thanksgiving, lament, trust—and sometimes simply remaining with God when there are no words.

Some of the most profound experiences of my life have come through prayer, particularly as a wife and mother. I have learned that prayer is not about finding the perfect words or persuading God to care. It is about learning to entrust ourselves and those we love to the One who already does.

I recently had the opportunity to speak about this very personally on Deborah Read’s Over 50 Shades of Great podcast in an episode called “What If God Is Waiting for You to Call? Brandy Mussman on Prayer, Motherhood & Faith.”

Home and Family

Ian and I live in California with our two daughters, whom we homeschool. Our family life, our ministry, and our study of Scripture are deeply intertwined.

I am still a student of Scripture myself. I don’t believe that a teacher ever reaches the point where she has “arrived.” There is always more of God to know, more in His Word to discover, and more of our own lives to surrender to Him.

That is ultimately what I hope The Way of Light offers to others:

Not simply answers.

Not another religious program.

But a way of walking with God—grounded in Scripture, rooted in covenant, centered on Jesus, dependent upon the Holy Spirit, and lived out faithfully in the ordinary realities of life.

My hope is that everything I teach ultimately helps people do one thing: know God more deeply and learn to walk with Him.
